4.5 out of 5
Never thought would give a Salman Khan movie a 4.5 !! But he deserves all the plaudits, awards and monetary awards for this beautiful movie. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is contrary to what people expected from a Salman Khan movie releasing this Eid.
Salman Khan has been known for his mindless action entertainers over the years. People come to watch him play to the gallery, do nonsensical dance steps and enjoy him, but never for his Acting.
But Salman Khan proves that when he underplays a character, he can do it with full earnest in his eyes , and most importantly Control.
But the true hero of the film, firstly is the writer from the South - Vijayendra Prasad and the film director Kabir Khan.'
Kabir Khan had last directed one of his weakest film ' Ék Tha Tiger ' with Salman Khan where he had stumbled down to the level of Salman Khan films, but this time he makes sure, he elevates Salman Khan to the level of films he believes in.
Vijayendra Prasad writes a very simple beautiful story of a 6 year old mute Pakistani girl (Harshali) being stranded in India, and how she meets Bajrangi (Salman) who is a god fearing, honest man.
The sequences in Delhi involving Salman, Harshali and Kareena are a little dragged , and we cant wait for story to change the gears.
The highpoint of the film is when Salman is tricked into sending Harshali to a brothel. How he exudes anger with his eyes, and decides to take Harshali himself to Pakistan moves the movie to an all together high.
But the best sequences of the movie is reserved for the second half, where one after the other, the movie keeps touching the chords of your heart.
The high energetic Nawazuddin in his potrayal of Chand Nawab is like fire to Salman's soft potrayal of Bajrangi.
Om Puri marks his presence in a small cameo.
You totally fall in love with the angel child Harshali. You involuntarily start mimicking her , as she smiles you smile, she cries , you cry.
The last 20 minutes of the movie is completely Bollywoodish to say the least, but it makes you reach the kerchief many times ...
The minus points of this movie, would be its songs, Salman-Kareena love track and Kareena Kapoor herself. Wish Kabir Khan could have taken a better actress who could have not been such a sore to your eyes and ears.
At the end of the movie, you leave with content of watching a beautiful story, with a rockstar naturally ACTING with his heart.
Made for repeat viewings !!
