D Day is a wannabe thriller but ends up presenting too much drama and less thrilling moments. None the less, its a fine movie which needs patience to watch.
We will all love Nikhil Advani for one 'Kal Ho Na Ho' even if he keeps on churning stupid films like Salaam E Ishq, & Chandni Chowk to China. D Day is of Patiala House quality of being bearable.
D Day is supposed to be an extraction of the worlds most wanted fugitive living in Karachi. Its a simple plot line, but is presented with an A-list star cast & shot very realistically.
Movies like these need not necessarily has lots of action, but it needs to be fast paced inter laced with drama, but Nikhil Advani involves too much of drama in the story which acts as a deterrent.
The slow back stories of RAW agents might be reflecting the reality but it oscillates the graph of the film up and down.
How to plan is formulated, worked up, goes horribly wrong, teaming back again is all very logical. But the end is a rush job as if the writers ran out of ideas and were eager to finish the script. You leave with a sour taste at the end.
Arjun, Irrfan, Huma Qureshi play their RAW agent parts brilliantly showing that these people are normal human beings assigned very sensitive tasks. Shruti Hassan's track is an extra luggage which has no contribution to the story. The real hero is Rishi Kapoor. He just keeps you amazed at his recent work pallete and range. Might not have many dialogues but just his aura and stare through the red tinted glasses lights up the screen.
Its a great attempt by Nikhil Advani to get out of his comfort zone and try something different, and he nearly achieves it also but just could not keep his focus till the end.
Don't be misled by trailers of it being a fast pacy thriller, watch it as a serious drama film with little doses of action.
