If you want to start the Star Wars series , start with the first one. Because as a first timer seeing any Star Wars movie, all the hype around the episode VII seemed exaggerated.
JJ Abrams who has handled the reboot of the Star Trek series quite convincingly , has apparently done an inferior job to the Star Wars series. The problem with the film is just a simple one - Not Entertaining Enough....
Its mainly targeted to its existing fans by playing on the Nostalgia Cards again & again. But to showcase this series to a whole new generation , is ineptly handled by JJ Abrams.
Its a story set after Luke Skywalker (Main Hero/Jedi from previous versions) has gone on a sabbatical leaving his group of Resistance in jeopardy. Still his twin sister Leia is somehow keeping the group together with the aid of The Republic & fighting off the nemesis-The First Order.
In search of Luke Skywalker, a pilot gets some information, which he handovers to a Droid BB-8 & gets captured by the nemesis , but later to be rescued by a Change-of-Heart Stormtrooper 'Finn'.
Finn meets Rey (Scanvenger whose background is not explained), and along with the most adorable character of the movie (BB-8), they are on the run, and how they eventually thwart The First Order's objectives forms the movie.
Harrison Ford as Hans Solo helps them , but eventually gets killed by his son, but does not evoke any sympathy.
Here & there, few punchline does raise some guffaws but they are too less to justify the ticket price.
The action sequences are top class & are the only sequences where you do not blink your eyes.
There are too many characters & sub plots going on, where you fail to connect to a particular character. Even the anti-heroes are not properly defined, and eventually its the chaos in the The First Order which results in their loss & not the bravery or intelligence of the heroes.
I wish the movie was treated as a reboot instead of the 7th episode since there is a whole new generation grown up between the Episodes. But the old Fans are happy, merchandises selling like hotcakes & the producers laughing all the way to the bank.
Eventually in the show business, its all that matters...
